MESOTHELIAL CELLS – What Is It?
The mesothelium consists of two layers of cells: one layer that surrounds the organs and other forms of sac around it. The mesothelium produces a lubricating fluid released between these layers, allowing organs to moving (such as the beating heart and lungs to expand.)
what is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a disease in which the mesothelium becomes abnormal and divides without control or order. The main cause of this disease is the result of exposure to asbestos. Asbestos consists of very small molecules, which can be flying in the air and then unnoticed can be inhaled by the body. People who work in mining and industry have a greater risk of this disease. When air containing molecules of asbestos inhaled by the body, then the asbestos molecules will be embedded in the lungs, the more asbestos inhaled then the more asbestos that is embedded in the lungs that cause mesothelial cells to react and mutation. This mutation causes the cancer cells grow in the mesothelium which this disease called mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a rare malignant cancer, this disease is increasing every year. Scientists are trying hard to do research on mesothelial cells, they tries to change that mesothelial cells taken from humans and mice, into a variety of cell types. After several weeks, scientists experiment shows the expected results though still on a small scale. Scientists believe that the results of these experiments provide very strong evidence for the use of mesothelial cells.
